The Ember Players – a sad farewell
“Enough; no more: ‘Tis not so sweet now as it was before.”
It is with more than just a single tear in my eye I have to announce that after nearly eighty years of board-treading, The Ember Players has faced its final curtain.
Founded in 1949 by some enthusiastic tennis members looking for even more excitement, the Ember Players has in the intervening period produced, on average, about three productions a year to the delight of Club Members and wider-ranging audiences.
Sadly, modern life has meant that fewer and fewer people have the time to devote to the Thespian art, in consequence of which it has been more and more difficult to find those willing or able to participate whether on or off stage. Regrettably therefore, we have to say goodbye.
So finally, some fitting words from the Bard:
“ And whether we shall meet again I know not.
Therefore our everlasting farewell take:
For ever, and for ever, farewell,
If we do meet again, why, we shall smile;
If not, why then, this parting was well made.”
