Who Are We?

Ember Sports Club was founded in the mid-1930s following the completion of part of what was then known as the Pound Farm Estate. The Club forms an “island” of land between The Drive and Grove Way, generously donated by the developers for the benefit of the neighbourhood.

Initially a Tennis Club with a thriving social life (curtailed a little by World War 2), the Club later expanded gradually with the formation of additional sections for the pursuit of – Drama (1949); Bowls (1950) and Croquet (1989). Today it numbers nearly four hundred members involved in one or more of these disciplines and together enjoying a wealth of social activities.

The premises are owned by a private company, Ember Club Limited, the majority of shares in which are held upon trust for the membership as a whole. The Club is managed by a Committee comprising its President, Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Bar Manager and three further members all elected at the Annual General Meeting and further representatives appointed by each section. A number of other members volunteer to be responsible for various aspects of the day-to-day running of the Club. Full details of the Management Committee and other members with individual responsibilities are posted in the Clubhouse.
