JG’s External Competitions Report #4

We have nine ‘teams’ in the semifinals this year and are guaranteed a finalist in the Ladies’ Singles and the Ladies’ Triples where our entrants meet in the semifinal. This is by far Ember’s best performance in these events but there is much work to do to achieve more than the two finalists we have so far, so best of luck to all our players. Our semifinalists are –
LADIES’ SINGLES – Linda Pillman plays Jackie Cornwell
LADIES’ TRIPLES – Jackie, Pat Roddis and Sylvia Jones play Lorna Kilpatrick, Val Chicken and Mary Green
MIXED PAIRS – Both Dave Bardsley & Linda and Jackie & Mike Cutts have qualified
MIXED TRIPLES – Jackie, John Garland and Mike C are in the semis
MIXED FOURS – Both our rinks have qualified and are in different halves of the draw Dave, Sylvia, Linda & Dick Jones and also Jenny Baird, Jackie, John G and Mike C
CHERTSEY BC are hosting the finals on SUNDAY 26 AUGUST (Bank Holiday weekend) so put this date in your diary and enjoy a good day’s bowling with some Ember interest.

The next report will be sent out about 21st August or as soon as the NWS Finals Programme is available and a copy of this will be on the Bowls Notice Board.

Charlotte Emanuel is moving to a club outside the NWS area and is resigning at the end of this year so an organiser is required for the Individual Competitions (she is currently the overall Competitions Secretary, supported by Robin Fudge and Steve Maddocks). Steve is also standing down for health reasons and currently controls the Mixed Events as the third member of the Competitions sub committee who also organise the very successful Presentation Evening.
Robin Fudge intends to continue leading the competitions sub committee but replacements are needed for:
1)  Steve’s Current Role
2)  A third Competitions sub committee member (either gender)
3)  Ladies’ League organiser
4)  Someone else (either gender) to replace Charlotte who has being doing at least 2 person’s work.
If you feel you can assist in any way, please contact me in the first instance. I will not be a candidate having done the Competitions’ Secretary in the past for five or six years.

We have won 5 and lost 4 matches and are around 5th place of the 14 clubs in the league.

We have won 5 and lost 5 and probably need 2 wins from our last 4 matches to secure our place in the top division for next year.

The 2 group winners play for the cup on NWS Finals Day on Sunday 26 August at Chertsey. With 4 matches to play we are in contention in our group with Ashford and Bishop Duppas.

We have won 4 and lost 6 matches and have only an away match at Esher and a home match against Chertsey to play. We played very well against the strong Egham team winning on one rink and only losing by 3 shots overall. Weybridge were far too strong for us and we lost by 42 shots but comfort can be obtained as another club lost to them recently by 44 shots.

The event has now reached the quarter final stage and we are represented by Adam Willson, Ray Croucher and Mike Cutts who play Imber Court ‘A’ on Sunday 12th August.

After several years I shall be standing down from this role at the end of the season so a replacement (either gender) is required for next season. The role does not have to be done in the detail that I have chosen to do it and it will be up to my successor to decide how they wish to cover the role.
