CROQUET NEWSApril Newsletter Roger DollimoreDiary dates
SECF Team Doubles Southwick. We have entered this competition and will need 4 players for each of Sat 26 and Sun 27 May. If you wish to play either or both days please put your name on the list in the pavilion or contact Mike Lambert. Easter Monday Roll –up 4 brave souls turned up for lunch in the main club house and were then joined by several other members for a couple of jolly games of golf croquet.
The Working Party on the 10 April carried out further remedial work of the surrounds to the lawns where the trenching machine had disrupted the surface, prepared a bed to the west of the main lawn by the bare fence for the sowing of a flower bed of wild meadow flowers, now completed. The area to the east of the main lawn alongside the tennis courts has now been reseeded and will hopefully start growing soon. Golf Croquet Thursday afternoons (2.30 – 5.00) are proving to be popular and nine players have turned out on more than one occasion. Rain has however been known to disrupt play, but not dampen spirits. Tuesday evenings are still earmarked for Club night 5.00pm until sunset. Rollup games with mentoring and tuition, an opportunity for Beginners and High Bisquers to get some coaching. Sunday Afternoon will be for the traditional Sunday Rollup, starting 2.00 pm. Tea at 4.15(ish). Please could everyone sign up to be tea monitor for one Sunday each this year. List in the pavilion also gives dates for the BBQ’s Ember Players The Animal Farm production went well and a big thank you to all members who manned the bar and helped raise nearly £200 (after vat) for our section funds. Congratulations to Mike Beaney for his Vice-President’s appeal to raise funds. We very nearly achieved the target total (only £250 short) which will help to preserve our financial reserves. Chris Knight and Sue and Peter Norman and have visited us and played a few introductory games. If you see them please welcome them to our section and help them to enjoy a game we all love. Now all we need is some benevolent weather for the season to be enjoyed. Membership subscriptions – last call!
