EMBER BOWLS CLUB - BOWLS 4 FREE BEGINNERS COURSE

Everybody has to start somewhere and it’s nice to have ahelping hand to explain what is going on and how the game is played. We have qualified coaches on hand to get you started in the game - and it won't cost you a penny!

Ember's Beginners Course make no assumptions about your knowledge of the game but, by the end of it, you should feel confident enough to join in roll-ups with fellow members and to develop your skills further.

Course Objective: To provide a painless entry for complete beginners to the game of Bowls by teaching you the basic techniques, including the way the game is played, so that you will feel able join in the club’s activities.

When is it held: Each year during the first half of May. The sessions are split between Sunday mornings and mid-week evenings. Details for the current year's course can be obtained from Jerry Ingham, the course organiser, whose contact details are below.

Duration: Five two-hour sessions. Attendance at all five is recommended, but, if you have to miss one, catch-up sessions can be arranged.

Course Content: The first session is a Taster Session, which will give you the opportunity to try your aim at bowling and give you an appetite to carry on further. Each follow-up session will include a talk on some aspects of the game, including its rules and etiquette, but will be mainly conducted through practice on the green. Helpful notes are supplied. At the end of the course the coaches and fellow bowlers will still be on hand to give help and guidance, should you feel you want it.

Dress Code: There is no special requirement for the course other than you must wear flat-soled shoes having no heels. These are essential to protect the green from wear. Trainers are usually satisfactory provided the sole is relatively smooth. The course organiser will be able to advise you on the suitability of your footwear.

Equipment: All equipment is provided. Protective mats may be used if there is danger of damage to the green.

Cost: There is no charge for participating in the Beginners Course. It is BOWLS 4 FREE
